AGLS Practical Ethics Training

About the training

This 90-minute face-to-face session will explore the fundamentals of professional practice as a government lawyer, with a particular focus on ethical responsibilities.

This training is an initiative of the Australian Government Legal Service (AGLS) in partnership with the Australian Government Solicitor (AGS). By the end of the session, participants will have a sound appreciation for the theoretical underpinnings of professional practice in a government context and how that theory translates into practice in everyday legal work. Topics will include:

  • the sources and rationale for ethical obligations on government lawyers
  • the content of the government lawyer’s key professional responsibilities
  • the interplay between legal ethics, the Legal Services Directions and model litigant obligations
  • practical tips for advising in an in-house environment.
